Toilet Clogs
Don't flush the toilet if it clogs, as this could cause the basin to overflow. Instead, grab a plunger and position it over the drain hole. Apply downward pressure to create a tight seal and then pull up sharply to create suction. Repeat this motion a few times until the clog loosens.
If the plunger doesn't work, you can try using a toilet auger or a plumbing snake to break up the obstruction.
Drain Clogs
It's common for sinks and shower drains to clog over time, as hair and other debris collects in the mouth of the drain. You can attempt to fish out any of this debris using a cleaning tool; most hardware stores sell these for just a few dollars.
Please don't use caustic chemicals to try to clean the drain, as these could damage your plumbing system.
If you lose electrical power, check if the outage is limited to your rental or other homes in the area. If it's only your property, check the circuit breaker panel to see if a breaker has tripped and reset it if necessary.
If that doesn't solve the problem, contact the utility provider to troubleshoot the issue further. In the meantime, use flashlights or battery-powered lights and avoid using candles for safety reasons.
Potential causes for the outage may include temporary problems because of construction, downed lines because of a storm, or financial issues due to nonpayment on your utility account.
First, check if the hot water problem is specific to one fixture or affecting your entire property. If it's only one fixture, such as a shower or faucet, ensure that the hot water valve is fully open.
If that doesn't solve the problem, inspect the water heater. Verify that the pilot light is lit and the temperature setting is appropriate.
If you're unable to troubleshoot the issue further, submit a repair request for help.
If your heating or air conditioning isn't working, check the thermostat to ensure it's set to the desired temperature and that the system is turned on.
If that doesn't resolve the issue, check the circuit breaker to see if the HVAC unit has tripped a breaker, and reset it if necessary.
